This is one of my young roses that I purchased from Heirloom Roses.  It is a David Austin Rose called Strawberry Hill.  This photo was taken last year and it has grown quite a bit.  I have it in a container and will transplant maybe next year when it grows a little more.  I do believe that own root roses are the way to go.   Read more about the remedies for rose pests…natural-remedies_black-spot

The dreaded Black Spot

Baking Soda Spray – Mix 1 tablespoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon cooking oil in one gallon of water. Place in spray bottle or tank sprayer and apply liberally (repeat as needed).

Sanitation – Remove infected leaves and destroy. Keep the ground surrounding your roses free of leaf debris and weeds.

We recently told you of a great all natural https://www.facebook.com/ManureTea?fref=ts  for roses.  Today please take a moment to visit the Heirloom Roses Website for a variety of natural home remedies to mix up and treat your roses. Heirloom Roses is a great resource to find very healthy own root heirloom roses.  They have a great selection of David Austin Roses too.

Aphids, mites, scale and white flies, pests that have natural remedies.

I’m a firm believer in not using anything especially if it is hazardous at any time.  Roses build up an immunity to certain things over time if left alone.  There are times however when they may need a little help from certain things like pests.  This is a great natural remedies post at their site.  Instead of me copying and posting I will give you the link to check it out and save for future use.

I hope you are having a great Spring out enjoying the pretty weather.

Thank You I just Loved Your Post!!

  2. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous roses and great “fix” for them. We lost ALL of our rosebushes this past winter. I just ordered a New Dawn and am waiting for it to get here. I think this is the only one I i will plant this year. xo Diana

Hi Diana, Thank you. I love the New Dawn and want one of those too. The soft pink color is gorgeous. Keep us up with your rose in pictures Diana! I’m so sorry that you lost your rosebushes. This past winter was quite bad and I love a few myself the others that survived have a lot of damage. Well the white old faithful pulled through but it was the only one not hurt. Good to hear from you. xoxo Dolly

  3. These are beautiful. I just love roses. I’m stopping by from Tuesday with a Twist and you are my neighbor. Roses just brighten up an entire room or garden. Oh, I just can’t wait to settle on a home again so we can’t plant more of these beautiful things. Thank you for sharing them and the secrets to keeping them beautiful.
