My husband and I are strong believers in the importance of having date nights. However, with our two children, my husband’s long working hours and sometimes not-so-full wallet, we have to get creative and create our own date nights.
As parents, our lives became so focused on putting our children first, that it is easy to put our marriage second. To keep your marriage adventurous, just make a weekly or monthly date night with these date night tips:
Have your close family, or close friend babysit the kids. We often dismiss the idea of date night due to not having someone to babysit our children. But, here is an idea : Make an arrangement with your closest married friends who have children and set up a schedule that outlines a trade-off for watching each others children for your date nights.
No Cost Dates: A date night does not need to cost a fortune. Better yet, it doesn’t have to cost you anything! Be creative and think of all the free things you can enjoy together on your date. This can include a walk along in your local park, or a bike ride. Sometimes, search for events that include concerts, or if you are on a budget – museum free days. Even window shopping can be fun when it is just the two of you.
Dessert Dates: A date night does not need to include a full meal. Create a date night by going out for dessert only, which might even mean an ice cream cone or have a cup of coffee in a local cafe bar together and just enjoy in each other company.
Home Sweet Home: Create your own date night at home. Put your children to bed early and have a romantic meal and enjoy a movie together.
Remember the idea is to spend time together! Don’t allow anything to get in the way of your dates.
