Spring 2012 Wedding Trends

Spring 2012 Wedding Trends

By Monica Lee Floyd

Every woman dreams of the perfect wedding.  From the dress, to the floral arrangements, the food, the music, and the venue; all a bride wants is her guests walking away from her wedding with an experience they will remember for a lifetime.  That is why it is so important to get creative, and throw unique personality into a wedding.  For spring 2012, there are so many ways to get creative.  Here in Savannah, Georgia, we have no shortage of creativity!

Perhaps the biggest influence on wedding dress this year is the example of the royal wedding.  Prince William and Kate Middleton were a stunning example of how to keep a wedding classic, elegant, and beautiful.   Kate Middleton’s wedding gown had the whole world talking, and as a result we are seeing a great deal of lacework in bridal gowns and a proclivity towards formal black tie weddings.  In Savannah, if you want a wedding dress fit for a queen, you will be outfitted at BleuBelle Bridal Salon, or La’Ren Belle .

Another trend this year in bridal gowns is color.  A splash of color is making a comeback in whichever colors the bride chooses for her accents; elegant and sleek, but with some flair.

As far as accent colors go, bolds on opposite ends of the color spectrum, and metallics are in.  These colors are being incorporated into bridesmaid’s dresses, table settings ,florals and decorations.

As far as bridesmaid’s dresses go, the most popular trends right now are neutral colors, and mix and match.

To go along with the neutral theme we are seeing a great deal of woodsy floral bouquets.

Another popular flower arrangement style this year is centerpieces in multiple vessels of  varying heights.

Food and cakes are taking a step up towards gourmet this year.  Wine and cheese pairings are in, as well as seasonal food being on the menu.  Another new trend on the more whimsical side is to rent out a cotton candy machine, or ice cream truck, as well as popcorn makers.  If you are going with the more classic wedding, the wine and cheese pairings are the way to go.

Lace and flowers are also making their way into wedding cakes.  Traditional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, and almond are on the rise.

In Savannah, the number one place to get your custom cake made is Tier Luxury Cakes featured on the Food Network Channel.  Also, Minette Rushing Custom Cakes is fabulous.            Unique venues are making a comeback, and Savannah, Georgia is just the place.  Brides from all over the world come to Savannah to get married at the Mansion on Forsyth Park.

Savannah also offers receptions on their Riverboat Cruises down the Savannah River.

If you are having your wedding in Savannah, Allison Reisz Photography is the way to go, and you want no one else but A to Zinnias to handle your floral arrangements.

So the bottom line is, if you are having a spring 2012 wedding, there are two different routes you can take.  Neutral colors, metallics, woodsy, natural, lacey, and elegant are one way to go.  The other way is bold colors, whimsical, and fun.  Either way, thankfully, modern music is popular right now, whether you are hearing a violinist play Led Zeppelin, or a band; you are going to be having a good time this year!
